It’s a blast from the past when Alexandra Fulford posts on LinkedIn: „The good old days #hcsmeu with lots of reactions from all the „old“ tweeps. The platform has changed but the people have not. Soon Alexandra, Silja, Felix and I organised a reunion tweetup in London and now we are chatting in a new #hcsmeu LinkedIn group. So more to come! Stay tuned!

Healthcare Social Media Europe – The Story

The hashtag #hcsm originally established by Dana Lewis in 2009, followed by #hcsmeu in Europe.

Global communities include #hcsmCA (Canada), #hcsmEU (Europe), #hcsmIN (India), #hcsmANZ (Australia) and #hcsmPH (The Philippines).

It all started with a few tweets about the healthcare industry in Europe in 2009….and the first tweetchat on 7th Aug. 2009

All these people, around 45 in number, have one thing in common: patients. Whether from the pharmaceutical industry, as doctors or PR/advertising agencies, as scientists or video/audio service providers, everyone was represented at the first Healthcare Social Media Unconference. And discussed, tweeted and photographed for a whole day.

Barcamp No3: Brighton 12.9.2011

The #hcsmeu community met in real life for the third time. Under the hashtag #hcsmgbc -Healthcare Social Media Global Camp, discussions took place for a whole day. The event was organised by John Worth from Worth Digital (@johnworth01), who made his entire office available to us – an English house just five minutes from Brighton Pier. To kick things off, we had dinner the night before at the best fish restaurant in town. The weather was typically British – warm, rainy with ‘sunny spells’ and an autumn storm to be proud of….

Over 60 percent of people since the first meeting in Berlin who are still involved

The camp shows very well how the hcsm movement has developed from people with common interests on Twitter into a lively community.

These presentations were streamed live and we discussed:

1) Trustworthy FIlters and Health Information on the Internet
2) The evolution of the doctor-patient relationship
3) Healthcare systems: Design; Healthcare, Social Media – The Ideal and the Reality
